Lasik Comanagement

Lasik is a surgical procedure that corrects common vision conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia.   It reduces your dependence on prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses.   Dr. Shin can assess whether you are a good candidate for Lasik, and schedule your post-operative visits.

We offer specialty contact lenses to fit many eye conditions, including high astigmatism and keratoconus.   If you’ve been unsuccessful with contact lenses in the past, there are new technologies, materials that can give you excellent vision and outstanding comfort with contact lenses.

Any of the following conditions can make contact lens fitting and comfortable contact lens wear more challenging:

Air Optix Multifocal Contact Lenses

Are you having difficulty focusing on your Ipad and computer monitor?   Is the morning newspaper becoming more difficult to read?    No worries!   Multifocal contact lenses may be the perfect solution for you.   The AIR OPTIX® AQUA Multifocal contact lenses allows for a range of prescription strengths to blend across the lens. It works with your eyes’ natural function for uninterrupted clear vision, near through far.

  • Clear vision at all distances, near through far.
  • Smooth transition between a wide range of distances.
  • Comfort throughout the wearing period.

Myopia Control

We offer Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) as an effective means of controlling myopia.  CRT is a safe, non-surgical and reversible process that uses special rigid gas permeable contact lenses to gently reshape the surface of your eye during sleep.   Contact lenses are taken out in the morning, providing clear vision during the day. This eye-reshaping is similar to what happens in LASIK, but there is no surgery. The effect is temporary, so lenses must be worn during sleep each night.

Corneal Reshaping with CRT Contact Lenses can be an ideal vision correction method for active children, especially those involved in sports, or children who are genetically prone to having their nearsightedness progress year after year. It’s also well suited to many adults whose careers or hobbies aren’t conducive to wearing glasses or contact lenses.

For children and adults who have stopped wearing daytime soft contact lenses due to lens discomfort, CRT can provide a healthier alternative and provide clear vision during the day.

Fundus photography

2008-01-01_00-00-00With my fundus camera, I am able to photo-document the retina, macula, and optic nerve.   These photos become a part of your medical record, and are used to follow, diagnose, and treat eye diseases.

Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

RTVue is an ultra-high speed, high resolution optical coherence tomography retina scanner used for retina imaging and analysis.  It takes about 100 scans within seconds, giving more detail about the retina, macula, and optic nerve!   This ultra-high speed and high resolution features help me to visualize the retinal tissue with ultra-high clarity in a fraction of seconds.
